Fallowfield Rapist Could Be Out in Two Years
A man who raped a student near Owens Park has been sentenced to six years in prison - but alarmingly he could be back on the streets in just over two years.
Twenty-one-year-old Martin Kerrigan pleaded guilty to rape, attempted rape and attempted robbery at Manchester Crown Court following the attack on a 21-year-old last October.
But the attacker could be released from prison in two years and 143 days – despite the severity of his offence.
Kerrigan grabbed the student from behind, dragged her down an alleyway and told her: “Don’t scream, don’t scream or I’ll stab you”, before proceeding to rape her.
Welfare Officer Gemma Currie told Student Direct that a rapist should not be able to get out of jail in two years. more »
